Our agency's branding required a visual refresh to signify directional changes that the agency has undertaken over the last 5 years. Refining our design aesthetic and taking a more minimalist approach has been a cornerstone of our creative development as a business, and our old branding failed to reflect these principles. We endeavored to establish studio identity that would utilise and showcase this more refined approach, as well as becoming a springboard for the brands that we service.
more about the brief
As a self-initiated rebrand project, there was no direct client brief. Rather, we set ourselves the task of stripping out clutter, reflecting our changing design principles, and simplifying our brand to the point of becoming a canvas on which to build other brands. We also aimed to create a modular, adaptable collateral set and website.
the final design
With the concept of 'Spring in Alaska' in mind, we developed a logotype icon representative of the Alaskan mountains silhouetted against a moon. This approach gave us a circular shape, which we then offset with rigid straight lines throughout the rest of the collateral. After an exploration of a colour logo, we instead used printing techniques - including foiling and embossing - to communicate the liveliness of the idea of 'Spring in Alaska'. The creative typography of the logo was offset through the use of a Swiss-style typeface elsewhere. With the collateral, we took special care with print methods and paper stocks/materials, using these aspects as the cornerstone of the brand.
